Membership Drive Underway

The Seneca Falls Historical Society’s membership drive for 2008-2009 is underway. Janet Cowing, daughter of industrialist John P. Cowing founded the Society, a non-profit organization in 1896. Miss Cowing’s personal papers, photos and collection are the foundation for our extensive collection. In 1961 the Seneca Falls Historical Society purchased our current location from Florence Becker. The house, maintained as a 19th century home with thousands of visitors a year, offers seasonal exhibits and a glimpse into the history of Seneca Falls. Deborah Jones, membership chair states, “The Historical Society relies on membership and donations to continue its strong commitment of preserving, protecting, and recording our history.”

Scholars, researchers, and historians have used the archives of the Society. We have even been contacted by Jeopardy, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Ken Burns, noted documentarian, declared,“ The Historical Society is a treasure, with an enormous amount of valuable information.” The museum staff visits local schools, hosts educational programs for all grades and presents programs for adults.

Kelly Doebler, membership committee member adds, “ Don’t wait to be asked to join! Seneca Falls Historical Society benefits everyone!” Members receive newsletters, discounts at our two gift shops, a discount on all paid programs and unlimited use of our library and archives. There are several levels of membership. Please help keep the organization a viable and integral part of Seneca Falls. More information at 315-568-8412 or www.historicalsociety. org.
